Biohome is a filter media made using sintered glass. Its unique construction and extremely porous nature create a huge surface area which make ideal conditions to colonise bacteria to filter your aquarium more efficiently.
Typically your aquarium filtration hosts aerobic bacteria which filters Ammonia (NH3) and Nitrite (NO2) and convert them into Nitrate (NO3) which is less harmful to fish, and you might use live plants and regular water changes to reduce levels of Nitrate. What makes Biohome special is the ability to support both aerobic and anerobic bacteria in higher flow rates – this means used in the correct quantities Biohome will also process Nitrates in your aquarium, as well and Ammonia and Nitrite. This means you can do fewer water changes and improve the living conditions of your aquarium!
To achieve this ‘full cycle’ it is recommended to use a minimum of 1kg per 100L for the average tropical community aquarium, more for heavily stocked of particularly large or messy fish.
